Asatru is the folk way of the people of Northern Europe and their descendants, who are today known by many names including English, Norse, Danish, Swedish, German, American, Icelandic, and others.
Asatru is MUCH older than some more common religions, it is as old as the Germanic people because it evolved with it over time!
This is our most natural way of life and thought. Honor, family, and bravery are all important things in Asatru.
Asatru has a code of conduct that are general guide post of decency called the nine noble virtues. They are:
1) Courage 2) Truth 3) Honour 4) Fidelity 5) Discipline 6) Hospitality 7) Industriousness 8) Self Reliance 9) Perseverance
The main celebrations of Asatru are blots ('blot' sounds like 'boat'). A blot is the exchange of gifts between us and the Gods. We offer the gods our honor, our good thoughts, our noble deeds, and our trust - the gods give us their blessings in many forms as well, such as inspiration, guidance, fertility, and trust.
Asatru does not see our gods as our masters. Our gods are our eldest kin, our friends, and at times our advisers.
Our destiny is not mapped out by the gods or the 'fates'. Our destiny is being created at every turn by our own actions, called our Orlog. So every many and woman is free to do with their life what they will. Whether waste it or live it with honor.
We have a saying:
- Cattle die,
- kinsmen die
- You too must die;
- I know one thing
- which never dies:
- Words of praise will never perish nor a noble name.
